After tree felling or dismantling, the stump of the tree will be left in the ground and cut off as close to soil level as possible without further excavation.

A stump grinder can be used to reduce the stump height from level with the ground or as far under the ground as you wish to allow for replanting or creating a level area where the stump was left originally. A stump grinder cuts the timber into chips to reduce its depth.
